Divinity in Extremis is an unreleased song by Grimes. The song has been speculated to be originally intended for Miss Anthropocene, as well as its unreleased second disc. The track was later speculated to be included in Grimes's scrapped album Book 1.
Background[]
In August 2020, the song was registered with 8 other songs;[1] potentially for the second part of Miss Anthropocene.[speculated][2]
Around December 7, 2021, Grimes confirmed the songs existence when a fan asked her if the song was real on Discord.[3]
Trivia[]
- The song is wrongfully thought by many to feature Lana Del Rey, however no credible sources have confirmed this claim. The rumour started when the songs page was added to Genius and Lana Del Rey was added as a featured artist (Genius users are known for spreading misinformation as it can be edited by anyone with no credible sources).[4][5] The songs page has since been deleted.[6] Another reason why Del Rey isn't featured on the song is that she isn't credited as a co-writer on ASCAP but is credited on the deleted Genius page.
- Divinity or the divine are things that are either related to, devoted to, or proceeding from a deity.[7]
- In extremis is a Latin phrase meaning "in the farthest reaches" or "at the point of death."[8]
