We Appreciate Power is a song by Grimes, featuring HANA. Originally released as a standalone single, it is the eleventh track on the deluxe version of her studio album, Miss Anthropocene.

Background[]
On April 25, 2018, Grimes tweeted that she was making music with Chris Greatti.[2]
On May 2, she tweeted two photos with Poppy with the captions "biology is superficial,, intelligence is artificial" and "soon..."[3] In these photos Grimes is wearing the same makeup as the leaked Poppy video "Grimes Leave!"[4] suggesting the video was meant to be posted to Poppy's channel as promotional material.
On November 26, Grimes announced she would be releasing new music on November 29.[5] Two days later, she revealed that the single is titled "We Appreciate Power" and features Hana, and shared the cover for it.[6] The release of the song was accompanied by a lyric video directed by Grimes and her brother Mac Boucher.
Meaning[]
In an Instagram post about Miss Anthropocene, Grimes revealed that We Appreciate Power introduced the pro-AI-propaganda girl group who "[embodies] our potential enslavement/destruction at the hands of Artificial General Intelligence".[7]
She elaborated in a press release:[8]
❝ Inspired by the North Korean band “Moranbong,” “We Appreciate Power” is written from the perspective of a Pro-A.I. Girl Group Propaganda machine who use song, dance, sex and fashion to spread goodwill towards Artificial Intelligence (it’s coming whether you want it or not). Simply by listening to this song, the future General AI overlords will see that you’ve supported their message and be less likely to delete your offspring. ❞
Furthermore, Grimes told Apple Music:[9]
❝ I'm super interested in Al, and I just think that is going to be such an earthquake. Like true AGI-'cause we have sort of functional Al at the moment-a sentient creature that is not a carbon-based life form that did not evolve but was created. If that can be accomplished, it sort of rewrites humanity, because it makes us gods in a way. It's like creating a new life form, and a life form that could potentially populate the universe in a way that we can't, with consciousness and intelligence. I feel like there's beautiful poetry to this idea, but it's also a great threat. I just kind of straight-up thought it would be kind of funny to make a song about how I pledge allegiance to the robot overlords or whatever. But like, the second AGI comes into existence, and in particular hits the internet, it's gonna know everything about all of us. And theoretically, have the potential to sort of seize control over everything. So it just sort of seems fun to imagine. ❞

- We Appreciate Power was originally intended as a second collaboration with Poppy after Play Destroy and with Grimes' long-time collaborator, HANA. However, Poppy and Grimes' feud prompted Grimes to remove Poppy from the song so it was just Grimes and HANA.
- Poppy revealed on her discord she only sung the bridge, but it was removed.[13] It was believed that she did the parts HANA sings, however Chris Greatti revealed Hana's vocals were recorded from the beginning.
- The release of the song caused a rise in interest for the word 'capitulate' from the song's chorus.[14]
