"Life in the Vivid Dream" is a song from Grimes' fourth solo studio album Art Angels, being the thirteenth track off the album. It is featured in the second half (referred to as act) of the music video for the first single, "Flesh without Blood". They were released simultaneously on October 26, 2015. It has a length of 1:27, being the shortest track on Art Angels.
When questioned about the meaning behind the song, and the reasoning of its existence and inclusion in the record by a fan on social networking site Twitter, Grimes said the following: "I guess it's sort of a sad song, I was crying when I recorded it, I hope that's ok, but I hope it brings joy".
Fans speculate the song might be one of the songs Grimes mentioned in her Dazed cover story, in which she described the song as being sung "from the perspective of angels who are polluted, so they're crying polluted tears". The lyrics "Angels will cry when it's raining / Tears that are no longer clean" further suggest this.
